MISSION STATEMENT:

The Emergency Medicine Interest Group (EMIG) was founded in 2009 as the first and only student organization at the American University of Antigua with a direct focus on information covering clinical practice and post-graduate training, specifically addressing the needs of students with an interest in pursuing emergency medicine as a future medical specialty. The group consists of students with past experiences in the emergency services (EMTs, paramedics, RNs, etc.) as well as other students with an interest in the field of emergency medicine who wish to participate in information sharing and hands-on training in an effort to maintain and expand knowledge and understanding of current events, trends, and practices.

EMIG is listed and recognized by the Emergency Medicine Residents’ Association (EMRA) and the American Academy of Emergency Medicine / Resident and Student Association (AAEM/RSA) and we are one of a few international medical schools (and the first in the Caribbean) to participate in both the EMRA EMIG and AAEM/RSA EMIG networks.

We work closely with AUA’s Emergency Medicine Training Center (EMTC) to offer EMIG student support in the center’s training activities.  Activities include training in suturing, IV blood draws, intubations, and much more. These are held monthly and are opened to all EMIG members.
